Waterwalker Winners
The 2010 Waterwalker Film Festival is pleased to announce the winning films in each of the following categories:
Best of the Festival - Finding Farley
Produced by The National Film Board of Canada Follow filmmakers Karsten Heuer and Leanne Allison along with their two-year-old son Zev as they trace the literary footsteps of an iconic Canadian author. Their 5,000 km journey has them paddling, portaging and sailing from the Prairies to the Maritimes where they finally meet up with Canadian author Farley Mowat. Running time: 62 minutes

Best Adventure Film - Paddle to Seattle
Produced by J.J. Kelley and Ben Gottfried Paddle to Seattle follows two adventurers on a 1,300-mile voyage in homebuilt kayaks for 97 days down the Inside Passage from Alaska through British Columbia to northern Washington. Running time: 52 minutes

Best Instructional Film - Sea Kayak with Gordon Brown
Produced by Simon Willis This film features exciting, practical sea kayaking instruction from Gordon Brown, one of the world's top coaches. It guides kayakers through forward paddling, turning and steering and into rough water and tidal races. Beautifully filmed off the Isle of Skye. Running time: 35 minutes

Best Action Film - Let the Slave Run
Produced by Jacqui Whitehead The Slave River in the Northwest Territories offers world-class play spots, river running and even creeking. Twelve friends gather on the Upper Red Deer River in the Alberta foothills to end the summer with a weekend of whitewater canoeing. All are ready to "get their paddle on" and have a good time. Running time: 12 minutes

Symbiosis

Symbiosis features exquisite footage from numerous West Kootenay creeks that are threatened by controversial independent power projects (IPPs). A collective of concerned kayakers are raising awareness over hundreds of IPP applications in British Columbia. Viewers are led down a selection of creeks and canyons special to the West Kootenay region.

During an eight-day canoe trip in Northern Saskatchewan in the summer of 2009, nine paddlers traveled up the Chipman River from Black Lake to Selwyn Lake, which rests on the border between Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories.

Like trying to catch a rattled rooster, Lucky 13 chases to keep up with a group of adrenalin-fused kayakers in search of a variety of whitewater features within their beloved West Kootenay playground. International Whitewater Hall of Frame

The International Whitewater Hall of Fame has inducted its fifth class of outstanding contributors to the sport, business, lifestyle and environmental stewardship that define the whitewater community. The 2009 inductees hail from six different continents and are: Explorer Lars Holbech, Pioneer Mikhail Kolche Vnikov, Champions Stepanka Hilertova and Pavol and Peter Hochschorner as well as advocates Bill Mason and Rafael Gallo.
