CANOE CANADA 2012 PROJECT During the summer of 2012, the Canadian Canoe Foundation (CCF) will be working with a wide-host of organizations in order to run a youth canoe trip in every Canadian province and territory! Partners on these environmental learning adventures will include: Paddle Canada’s (PC) canoeing associations, the Canadian Heritage River Systems (CHRS) and Chapters of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS).
The project, titled
Canoe Canada 2012 will culminate in a delegation of CCF youth participants attending the 7
th Canadian River Heritage Conference in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (June 15-19
th, 2013). The youth delegates (one from each province and territory) will present posters describing the natural, cultural and historical status of the waterways they travelled. They will also take part in a CCF led presentation describing our organization and the environmental objectives of the Canoe Canada 2012 project. Our aim is to provide a voice for Canadian youth at this important national level conference that will provide the attendees (provincial and federal governments, businesses, academics) with a youth perspective on the importance of making important environmental conservation decisions now in order to protect Canada’s wilderness and waterways for future generations.
THE CANADIAN CANOE FOUNDATION The Canadian Canoe Foundation (CCF) is a charitable organization
(BN 817126543RR0001) that sends Canadian youth on environmental education canoe-trips. Our objective is to develop the next generation of environmentally informed and active citizens. We believe that extended canoe trips provide a transformative experience that cannot be achieved in the classroom. Only by travelling and living on a waterway can one appreciate and understand the impacts that human development is having on Canada’s natural heritage. The Foundation partners with
environmental organizations in order to raise awareness of their conservation campaigns and to provide our youth participants with real-world learning opportunities. After the canoe trip project, the youth return home as
Future Leaders; informed and motivated to work with their family, friends and our partnering organizations to find sustainable solutions to environmental issues in their Watershed.
